Latino and Native American communities are woven into the cultural fabric of Arizona, shaping its identity for centuries. Their traditions do not simply coexist. They combine into a shared identity built on resilience and pride, one that carries tradition forward while still evolving.

Ciclope Festival

In October, Ciclope Festival the world’s largest audiovisual festival we were invited to create its new visual identity at a moment of cultural tension. The industry was deep in debate over AI, automation, and the erosion of craft. The festival launched with a short film, AI Apocalypse, satirizing fears of machines overtaking creative production.

The brief posed a paradox: how do you design an identity about the “end of human creativity” without relying on the very tools under scrutiny? We chose a radical answer no AI, no generative shortcuts. Instead, we returned to the most fundamental symbol of audiovisual culture: real film stock. The identity became more than a campaign; it became a manifesto for human authorship. The entire typographic system was built from the same physical film reel used in the short film making the medium itself the message.
